Wednesday, March 4: Atlas Intro Test / Map Scales
CLASSWORK:
The majority of today's class was used for students to complete their Atlas Intro Tests.
As students were writing their tests, Mr. Clark distributed the overheads & handout for the next topic - Understanding Map Scales. The overheads included, "Notes on Map Scales", "Various Map Scales and Their Uses"& "Metric Unit Conversions". The handout was titled, Map Scale Assignment".
Students were asked to read the three overheads in preparation for tomorrow's lesson on Understanding Map Scales.
HOMEWORK:
No homework was assigned today.

Tuesday, March 3: Climate Graphs / Atlas Test Study Session
CLASSWORK:
There were several students who struggled with the assignment on the handout titled, "Climate Graph Assignment". These issues were primarily due to students having not taken the time to carefully read the directions. Mr. Clark took a large portion of the class to clarify the assignment, and provided class time for students to fix these.
For the latter portion of the class, Mr. Clark went over the material from the Atlas Intro Package (P. 1A - 12B) that would be tested tomorrow. The purpose was to help students know what to study for this test.

Monday, March 2: Climate Graph Assignment / Atlas Test Studying
CLASSWORK:
Today in class, students were asked to complete the assignment on the handout titled, Climate Graph Assignment". They were to use the handout titled, "Climate Graph Assignment Rubric" to carefully ensure that all necessary criteria are met.
If students finished early, they were given time to look over their Atlas Intro Packages (P. 1A - 12B) as there will be a test on this material on Wednesday, March 4.
HOMEWORK:
Complete "Climate Graph Assignment" for Tuesday, March 3, and continue to study for the "Atlas Test" on Wednesday, March 4.

Friday, February 27: Graphing in Geography
CLASSWORK:
Mr. Clark started class by reassuring students that based on what we had learned about different types of graphs in Math last semester, this section should be a bit easier.
He then reviewed the different types of graphs (pie graphs, line graphs & bar graphs) as well as their primary purposes.
Next, Mr. Clark provided a lesson on the purpose and proper format of Climate graphs.
He then distributed the assignment from the handout titled, "Climate Graph Assignment", as well as the handout titled, "Climate Graph Assignment Rubric" - the second handout explains how the Climate Graph Assignment will be evaluated.
Students were then offered the remainder of the class to work on their climate graph assignments.
HOMEWORK:
No homework assigned today. Students will be expected to complete their climate graphs tomorrow in class.

Thursday, February 26: Absolute & Relative Location
CLASSWORK:
Today in class, Mr. Clark reviewed the lesson he gave on Tuesday, Feb 24 covering absolute & relative locations.
Next he distributed the assignment from the handout titled, "Finding Cities Using Absolute & Relative Location" as well as overheads titled, "Latitude Notes", "Longitude Notes" and "Notes" Absolute & Relative Location".
Students were offered the remainder of the period to complete their assignment from the handout titled, Finding Places Using Absolute & Relative Location".
HOMEWORK:

Wednesday, February 25: Marking Atlas Intro Booklet
CLASSWORK:
Today in class, Mr. Clark started by checking that the assigned work from Tuesday was completed (Atlas Intro Booklet P. 12B).
We then spent the remainder of the period marking pages 7A - 12B, and discussing any that caused difficulty for students.
This completes our intro to using the atlas. The remainder of the geography unit will require students to use these atlas navigating skills to complete learning in other areas.

Tuesday, February 24: Population Distribution and Density Lesson / Intro to Using an Atlas.
CLASSWORK:
Today, class started with Mr. Clark introducing the concepts of population density (how "tightly packed" a population is in a particular space) and population distribution (how a population is spread out over the space).
He used examples by asking students to configure themselves around the room, and he discussed the different distributions and densities in the classroom. Density refers to the number of people in a determined space. It can be raised by increasing the number of people in a space, or by decreasing the amount of space containing a set number of people. Distribution refers to a visual picture of how people are spread out in a given space.
Following this lesson, Mr. Clark asked students to complete their Atlas Intro Booklets (P. 12B).
HOMEWORK:
Complete Atlas Intro Booklet to the end (P. 12 B). This should be completed for Wednesday, February 25.
